HALINÁ Modern Filipino Kitchen + Bar: Familiar Filipino Flavours, Reworked

Halina is a chef-driven Filipino kitchen and bar on East Hastings Street in Vancouver. For anyone who grew up on sinigang, caldereta and pancit, the menu is a chance to taste those dishes rebuilt with new proteins and modern plating, and for anyone new to Filipino food it is an easy place to start.

How It Started

Halina grew out of Bigboy’s Chigs To-Go, a small takeout and catering business run by four friends who shared a love of Filipino cuisine. The restaurant is their bigger idea: an elevated dining room that blends Filipino tradition with Canadian ingredients and keeps the door open to everyone.

The website even includes a history of Filipino cuisine, tracing how Spanish, Chinese, American and Japanese influences were layered onto the islands’ own cooking rather than replacing it.
